i'm an aspiring writer for a new scene magazine based in Braintree, Essex. i'm here to find new and exciting acts both for my own enjoyment and to help local unsigned artists gain exposure. My tastes include artists such as System Of A Down, Aphex Twin, 65daysofstatic, Mogwai, Tool, and much more [:

Hi Mitch - thanks so much for the encouragement - I'll give you some background info here... we've just finished our first full length album 'Seeing Faces' - the whole of which can be heard (in the correct order) on www.myspace.com/soki2u but if you like, let me have your postal address and I'll send you a CD when they arrive next week. My co-founder, Brendan Lynch and I, started Soki2u in 2006 and for our first EP Vortex we won the Bands Unsigned UK Platinum Award and we've had 4 Number 1 tracks on their Top 30 chart to date. Indie-Music gave it a good review saying our sound in general resembles the soundtrack of a David Lynch B Movie - which to me was a great compliment because at least two of us in the ensemble (myself and David Floc'hlay who is based in Paris and whose film-maker brother Stephane did the video for my song 'A Circle of Sorrow') are massive David Lynch fans. We produce all our own material in Brendan Lynch's home studio in west London - the exceptions are Sarah Panton, who co-produces her own tracks with her partner Christian Audas in north London, and David Floc'hlay who produces his material in Paris, primarily for his brother's dark, short movies but also for Soki2u. However we remix and remaster everyone's stuff as Brendan is an accomplished technology nut.
Some of the musicians - notably Mart Giebner who did the stunning track 'Cold Town' and Charl Jean Bouwer aka Peyote - are brilliant guitarist/singer/songwriters, and they both enjoy performing live, especially Mart, who will get onto a stage at the drop of a hat. Ran Wang (who is based in Kawasaki, Japan now), has a fascinating story: she arrived in London 5 years ago, unable to speak English, and alone. She taught herself the language, put herself thru a sound engineering course and self- produced an incredible and beautifully presented album of Japanese folk songs. I met her and Carlos Herrera both, separately, while they were playing live. Carlos's incredible classical guitar track 'Regards to Roxy', is (incredibly) his first original composition. In terms of other instruments, Sarah's been a drummer before (!) and the only two who play keyboards are myself and Brendan Lynch. The others are all guitarists. Oh we also had some tracks on an American compilation CD last December. I think what people like is the 'soundtrack' kind of feel to our work as the genres really do vary from experimental rock to ambient, with everything else thrown inbetween. The concept of Soki2u is interesting in that while some of us are in England, others are abroad, so we've never all been under the same roof together.
Thats about it for now - just thought I'd give you a little bit of an intro as to how we started up.
Enjoy the bank holiday Monday - and thanks again for your kind comments on our material.
Cheers,
Derek
