Style of music
ANDREA SOLER is a fresh and inspiring singer-songwriter from Australia.

Her unique indie folk style blends a variety of influences including soul, rap and flamenco. Overlaid with her effortlessly seductive vocals, this creates an irresistible sound. On stage she is a spontaneous and passionate performer, and captivates her audience with her open hearted and intimate delivery of every song.

In 2005 Andrea worked alongside accomplished producer and musician, Richard Bell, creating her 9 track demo, and forming her first band ‘The Common Thread’, which played support act to popular Australian musicians such as Xavier Rudd, Claire Bowditch, and Dubshack.

Before heading to the UK, Andrea spent a year living in Paris, where she performed regularly at a variety of bars and café’s in the cobble-stoned streets of Montmartre and throughout the city. She also featured on radio, and headlined the ‘Festival Des Talents’ last May.

Since emerging on the scene in the UK her cruisy vibe melodies have delighted audiences across the country playing at several venues and festivals including the Wickerman, Loch Lomond, and the Eartheart stage at The Big Green Gathering.

Andrea is currently recording her debut EP ‘Better in the Sunshine’ and will be touring throughout the UK and France in 2008. Although she intends to tour in Australia late 2008/09, she is planning to return to play in the UK in June 2009.

“There’s no one thing that makes Andrea a wonderful performer. It’s a combination of her life energy, her openness with her audience, her beautiful songs and utterly incredible voice. I feel blessed each and every time I have the opportunity to see Andrea play as she lifts my spirit, and helps me feel a little more peaceful in the world.” Nadia Sundae (ABC Radio, Gold Coast, Australia)

"Whether performing in an intimate setting or on a bigger stage, Andrea’s naturally infectious vibe connects effortlessly..." Conrad Barr (Solid Air Promotions,UK)

A Bit of a Background

Born in Sydney Australia, Andrea Soler grew up in the World Heritage National Park of the Blue Mountains. As a kid she loved to play in the forests, and from a young age developed a great love of nature.

With a French/Algerian father, and Australian mother, Andrea was always exposed to multiculturalism. Since the age of five, she traveled overseas with her family, which opened her eyes and gave her an appreciation of diversity in cultures.
Coming from a family of writers and artists, music came naturally to Andrea, and from an early age she sang with her mother and older sister, listened to her Dad’s stories of Algeria and his collection of world music.
As a teenager she started up a radio show on a local radio station, and loved being able to play her favourite music and talk live on air.

When Andrea left school she began searching for direction and meaning in her life.
With a passion for the environment, she first worked on a project to plant 16,000 trees in six months. She then went on to become an environmental educator for school children, teaching young people how to look after the planet.

Andrea involved herself in many community projects for the environment, and for Indigenous Australians, and she began to understand the vital link between humanity and the environment. She realised in these times people need to come together, and break down the walls of separation. When people are connected to themselves and others, they are connected also to the planet.
“Being involved in these projects gave me a global vision. I started to see the bigger picture, and this was my first experience of how music could make a really positive impact on people. Music brings people together, and creates harmony and unity. ”

At 19, Andrea moved into an old beach house located on the Gold Coast, Australia. It wasn’t long until they decided to turn half the house into a drum and percussion shop. It was the start of an amazing time in Andrea’s life, where the meaning she was seeking was revealed.

The drum shop soon became a popular place to meet, and a weekly Wednesday jam-night was born. These nights pulled in people from all walks of life, and became an underground gathering, where people shared and played music of all styles, openly and freely.

It was at this point Andrea bought her first guitar, began writing songs, and then shared them at the jam nights. Taking the next step she then took guitar lessons from Ralph White, a legend guitarist who previously taught the likes of Cat Stevens and many other successful musicians. After six months of learning Ralph’s techniques, Andrea decided to teach herself, and playing by ear she created all her chords, finger picking, and strums. This enabled her to find her own unique style of playing.

After 18-months immersed in the ever expanding creativity of the evolving drum shop Andrea moved to a rustic old timber house in the middle of a forest. It had no electricity, spring fed water – sometimes, and it was so wild that there were snakes, bush rats, possums and other forest animals occupying the house. Although extreme and often hard, it was a very magical time for Andrea living there. It was a place of paradise surrounded by mountains, rainforests, rivers, and beaches, and became a place of inspiration for Andrea’s song writing.

And to this day Andrea continues to be inspired by nature and her music comes from a very sacred space. Andrea offers a positive vision for humanity,as she sees the connection between all peoples. Her lyrics continuously flow from pen to paper via an open channel like a stream that always runs, and she always has a notepad by her side to write them down, which then starts the process for another one of her captivating songs.

Hi Andrea,

Glad you like 'FRIENDS'. Its a great feeling when a song connects. I have just listened to 'BETTER IN THE SUNSHINE' and 'HOW MANY ANGELS' and I love them. Your philosophical lyrics and soulful and honest vocals are well, just BRILLIANT.

Great Songwriting.
