This is something which will take a lot of thought, and believe a lot when i say it! I have been thinking about this all week!! Im still undecided but one of my recomendations is Roy Orbison's Crying? What would you recomend?
This is a difficult one as there are many that lock in with different times, Elton John, Your Song.... not sure if you'd agree? hmmm will list more when my mind isnt so blank!

Good discussion Mark, but almost impossible to answer as there are thousands of great ones out there. But if I was forced to take just one song to a desert island it would have to be 'HYMNS TO THE SILENCE' by Van Morrison.
Blimey I think thats almost impossible to answer I can think of a few of the worst ones lol Like Rolf Harris singing Napoleon Bonepart which if you havent heard it is an absolute shocker lol : )
I think some of the best songs have been soiled a little by being played to death but for what its worth Hey Jude or Unchained Melody maybe ?

Let It Be.... isnt this the ultimate song? actually I grew up with most of the beatles albums in my ears, "Help" was a great album... and film!
OK I think I am settled on the one song... "Let It Be" thats what I think is the best song ever written.
I'm gonna have to say Closer by Nine Inch Nails. That song is THE most SEXY song ever written. (Or perhaps thats just a weird Scorpio thing) Even though its like 14 years old now, it still goes off!!!
Songs like Wuthering Heights and Cloud Busting by Kate Bush are also personal favourites.
